Japan Takes Onthe World
From the founding of the Japan Cup to Longchamp and Dubai — a record of Japanese horses abroad.
The Japan Cup was created in 1981 to give home horses a chance against international opposition. In 1992 Tokai Teio won it — the first Japanese-trained winner of an international Grade 1.
Longchamp
In 2006 Deep Impact crossed the line third in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe but was later disqualified. In 2012 and 2013 Orfevre finished second in the Arc two years running.
A second place that fell short is history too.

Dubai
Almond Eye won the Dubai Turf in 2019. In 2023 Equinox won the Dubai Sheema Classic on his way to being named the World’s Best Racehorse.
