One Horse Changedan Era
A grey from a local track in Gifu moved a whole country, far beyond racing fans.
In May 1987 Oguri Cap made his debut at Kasamatsu, a local racecourse in Gifu Prefecture. He won ten of twelve starts there, and in January 1988 he moved to the JRA.

He won twelve graded races in the JRA, four of them Grade 1. With Super Creek and Inari One he was one of the “Heisei Big Three”, and his following spread well beyond racing.

The last Arima Kinen
In autumn 1990 he finished sixth in the Tenno Sho and eleventh in the Japan Cup — numbers that seemed to spell decline. Then, on 23 December, in the Arima Kinen that was to be his final race, Oguri Cap crossed the line first under Yutaka Take.
He was named Horse of the Year for 1990 and entered the Hall of Fame in 1991.
